Abstract: Sulfadimidine is a sulfonamide used to treat a variety of bacterial diseases in humans and other species and to promote growth in food-producing animals. CAC, EU, USA, Japan, China, and many other countries have released the MRLs of sulfonamides for their use in animal production. It had been previously reviewed at the thirty-fourth and the forty-second Meeting of the JECFA, the professional worldwide organization on evaluation of the safety of food additives. In the present paper, we analyzed and summarized the toxicological data of sulfadimidine derived from JECFA report, in order to provide valuable information in aquaculture for risk assessment and control of sulfonamides.
